Strength and Tabata on Saturday Morning

September 8, 2012 By kstout10 4 Comments

It has become more and more obvious that I need to add a weekend workout. I attend classes pretty regularly on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday but that’s it. I guess 3 workouts a week would work spaced out but this just seems way too lopsided. Thursday nights I work late so I really needed to add something on Friday or Saturday. Telling myself I’ll run just hasn’t been cutting it. Unfortunately there aren’t any classes at my gym that I’m interested in on those days.

The trainer for the Monday night class I like also offers small group training outside. I’ve considered signing up on different occasions but couldn’t see spending more money on workouts than we already do. She ran a special recently though, weekly body fat analysis with a monthly prepay. This is so worth it to me! A couple years ago I had an evaluation with a trainer who explained that my weight is actually appropriate for my height/frame but that my body fat was, well, let’s just say closer to pâte′ than sirloin if you know what I mean.

I usually work out in the evening. I go to work early enough to get home and get the girlie off the school bus so there’s no time for a morning workout. I used to run on Saturday mornings but it’s hard to get going without someone to be accountable to.

I signed up for a month of Saturdays and scheduled my first class for this morning. The handsome husband and the girlie were still asleep when I left, the only ones awake to keep me company over breakfast were these 2 beggars:

“We’d like to eat breakfast with you! Now please!”

Then it was time to leave for class.

What am I getting myself into?!

I was surprised by the number of women there. I was a little intimidated by the size but it was a friendly group. Pretty soon we were warmed up and getting sweaty. What a great workout! I loved being in a group of women of all shapes, sizes and ages. Because it was just “us girls” we were able to be a little more relaxed and irreverent than in a mixed gender group or at the actual gym.  I was also a huge fan of working out outdoors! We’re lucky enough to live in an area where a public park parking lot is surrounded by natural beauty.

The formal atmosphere definitely set the tone.

I’m so glad I signed up for this! I had a great time and a great workout. As I’ve been going through the rest of my Saturday I’ve noticed that I’m more relaxed, knowing that I already got a workout in. Bonus: my body fat percentage was definitely down from a couple years ago!

Sweaty and proud! Too bad I forgot my headband. Combining exercise and humidity definitely made my frizzies stick to my face.

Sounds like a fun workout! The weekends are my killer long workouts. I sacrifice on sleeping in just so I can get the maximum family time on those 2 days.
