Greetings from the land of sub-zero temps. Brr!! What a week of changing, rearranging, and scrambling to get it all done! Whew! I am so ready to sit back and watch something mindless on TV. But first, I want to share the madness. Let’s see…the last time I posted was Monday…
Tuesday went reasonably well. Girlie and I went to family yoga together and had one of our better practices in a while. Then she played with her gym friends while I got my cardio on. I had rearranged my meal plan to have my high carb dinner on our girls’ night. When we got home from the gym I got water boiling for pasta and started making meatballs. Then I realized I had a famished little girl on my hands. Cardio had taken longer than I’d thought-doh! So I got her something quick and ate spaghetti and meatballs solo, later. Lesson learned: Tuesday night’s dinner needs to be ready to go as soon as we get home.
Wednesday I was TIRED. Exhausted. I decided to completely rearrange my workout week so that I could have Wednesday as a rest day. Looking back I’m not sure if that was for the best, or not.
Thursday night I work late, so I had everything ready to go to the gym. Unlike last week I had everything I needed, including the assigned workout. Which was actually Wednesday’s strength training. I got it all done, despite an extra crowded gym. Which brings us to Friday morning, the moment when all plans went out the window.
Girlie was having a really hard time, not wanting breakfast and complaining that she was too hot. Too hot?! Friday morning the outside temp was barely above zero. We have heat and all but it was definitely not hot in the house. So I took her temp. Fever city. No school for girlie. Time for the 2-career-sick-kid-shuffle. Thankfully HH’s parents live in town and are super helpful at times like these.
Thanks to HH and my wonderful in-laws I was able to get all my weekend workouts in, just not when I normally would. I was actually the only soul in the cardio room on Friday night. Which I’ll admit, I kinda enjoyed. Saturday morning I usually go to class and have my weigh-in, but that wasn’t possible. So I got the exercise list from class and was back at the gym Saturday night.
This has been one of those fun, unpredictable, better-for-a-few-hours-then-worse sick things. Girlie was supposed to spend Sunday with her grandparents while HH and I went to a friend’s baby shower across the state. But she was too sick to be left for the whole day so we had to make our regrets. I made it to the gym for a good run and was able to meet up with the fabulous trainer leading this 10 Week Transformation for my weigh-in and body comp. (which is still going in the right direction-yay!)
Most of today has been spent caring for my girlie and doing some serious meal prep. I’ve got one seriously stocked fridge. Roasted chicken breasts with two different marinades. Turkey burgers. Enough protein pancakes to last the week (including a few chocolate chip ones for a sick kiddo).
Now that I’ve cooked dinners for the rest of the week, Handsome Husband is cooking tonight’s dinner and I’ve got my feet up.
If you’re a work-outside-the-home parent do you have a sick day plan?
Do you have a meal prep day? I never really did before but now I’m finding that it’s the only way I can make things work.
