Hi There Friends! I sure am glad that I only took those 3 days off last week. It was stressful working Christmas Eve day then having company that night BUT I left myself enough time off accrued to not really stress this storm. Whew!
If only we had dishwasher detergent. Or more than 1/2 cup of milk in the jug. That’s ok. I didn’t want to do dishes anyway and Girlie is the only one who uses dairy milk.
I got up at 5:45 this morning to learn that school was cancelled. I emailed and called work (I wanted to make sure to alert everybody who needed to know.) I think this may be the first time I’ve called out for weather at this job. In fact, I think this may be the first time I’ve called out for weather since the ice storm 5 years ago. I spent years working at facilities that do not close for weather. Ever. I’ve gotta say, it was really nice not to stress driving to work in the snow or juggling childcare. After dealing with work email I went back to bed for a couple hours. Awesomeness.
Once we got up and got breakfast we decided to ignore the snowstorm with its bluster and single digit temps and watched a little H2O, Just Add Water. Yes, we like watching 5 year old Australian Tweener TV. I would say that Girlie is the only one who likes the show but that would be a big ol’ lie. It’s cute and engaging with a decent moral compass without being preachy. Plus watching teenage actresses in bikinis helps me keep my hands out of the cookie jar.
The cookie jar which is freshly filled of course. We didn’t make Christmas cookies far enough before Christmas to send any to Girlie’s teacher so we decided to make some New Year’s Cookies for her. I have mentioned how wonderful this woman is, right? We love her and we were not going to let her be the first teacher in Girlie’s educational career to not get my Dark Chocolate Peppermint Butter Cookies. There’s a dozen bagged up for her but plenty in our cookie jar too.
After TV time I made up a snack plate for lunch including cold leftover roast chicken, salami, red pepper strips, grapes, and pistachios. Girlie and I picked at it while we played Yahtzee. I hadn’t even thought about how perfect Yahtzee would be for someone who’s just started to learn multiplication. It was seriously a great way to sneak some math into a snow day. Plus Girlie was so busy having fun she didn’t even ask about dessert!
Right when Yahtzee lost its appeal we got a text from a neighbor inviting Girlie over to play (which is where she is now). I got her all bundled up and on her way and made myself a cup of tea to sip while writing this. The Celestial Seasonings Cinnamon Apple Spice is Ok but the Bigelow Apple Cider tea is my favorite. Too bad I can’t find it in the stores anymore! It’s seasonal for fall. I could order a case directly from their website but with the holidays I didn’t really feel like spending that much cash on tea. Plus, where would I store a case of tea?
Now my tea is almost gone. I’m debating going out and shoveling this: HH said he would do it when he got back from his meeting but I’m worried that’ll be after dark. Plus, today was supposed to be a cardio day and I really don’t think I’ll feel like hitting the gym at 5:30 or 6:00 tonight. Hmm.
Did you have to venture out in the storm or were you lucky enough to hunker down?
PS- I didn’t get this published right away but I did get that walkway and driveway shoveled! There’s only the new 2 or 3 inches out there now. Egads.
