Hey There Friends!
Girlie starts third grade on Wednesday (choke, sniff…) which made this weekend the last weekend before the start of school. I had asked her if there was anything she had wanted to do over the summer that we hadn’t done. She was able to come up with 2 things, a trip to the mall and camping out in our backyard campsite.
Girlie had a planned day and night with friends (activities and slumber party!) for Friday. This gave Handsome Husband and I a chance to get out for a well deserved date night. It was so much fun to get all gussied up and hit the town! We hadn’t finalized plans so we just drove into Portsmouth.
While driving towards the parking garage we could both smell burgers cooking somewhere. That inspired us to try BRGR Bar. OMG- soo good! I got a bison burger with bacon and smoked gouda. Yum! It came with ricotta sweet potato tots, which were amazing.
After BRGR Bar we decided to check out Book and Bar. Wine and books? How had I not been there before? HH not only bought me a drink, he bought me a book too. Definitely a sign of a good date. The desserts at Book and Bar weren’t tempting me though so we decided to make one more stop before heading home: Popovers. We got our desserts to go and picked up a rosebud cake for Girlie. It’s her favorite celebration dessert and there was only one left in the display case. (Sorry, no dessert pictures. I got this cute little chocolate mousse cup.)
Saturday morning I hit the gym for what wound up feeling like a pretty mediocre workout. The treats the night before were definitely not the best fuel for an early am workout. Plus my elbow started aching a bit so I took the last few sets really easy.
Then it was time to get cleaned up and take Girlie to the mall. I was a mall loving teen and twentysomething but I never seem to go now. Girlie and I had fun walking around, getting her a back to school outfit, new shoes, and making a stop at the candy store.
While we were at the mall HH got our tent set up in our backyard camping spot. We settled in around the fire and made s’mores. (yum!) Our campout lasted until about 9:45- pm! HH had gone into the house for something so Girlie and I were sitting by the fire. Suddenly she shrieked! A big daddy longlegs was on her lap! She jumped up and brushed it off and we stomped it (we think) and Girlie had had enough. She said that she wanted to go in and sleep in her own bed inside but that she wanted to be walked in. When I told her that we couldn’t leave the fire unattended Girlie went into the tent “until Daddy comes out!”. She told me “when I said I wanted to camp out I forgot about the bugs”. I can’t argue with that. I’m not a bug fan either.
So HH got Girlie into bed, I put out the fire, and we slept in our own beds. Oh, and I finally got to watch the Veronica Mars movie. All in all a good night.
Sunday evening Girlie and HH had a daddy/daughter date night, dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. Meanwhile I went to an event I’ve been looking forward to for weeks! Restorative Yoga with Happy Love Yoga at Inner Truth Massage. We enjoyed two hours of restful poses and meditations in a lovely dim room. This was exactly what I needed to go into the back to school week with the right attitude.
How was your weekend? Are you preparing for back-to-school?
