Good Morning! It’s back to work for me today. Hooray for a short week, let’s keep our fingers crossed that Mr. Murphy doesn’t decide to fill a 4 day workweek with 5 days worth of stress. I definitely managed to fit plenty of fun into my 3 day weekend though.
Friday after work I hit the gym before picking up Girlie and taking her to her gymnastics class. We had a nice low key afternoon and evening together. I’m not sure if I mentioned that Girlie and I have started watching Merlin together. Friday we enjoyed a couple episodes while snuggling on the couch. She had slept over her grandparents Thursday night so I needed extra snuggles!
After Girlie went to bed HH grilled up some steak tips for the two of us to enjoy an at home date night. Red wine, steak tips, and the season finale of Supernatural. Yes, I had a wonderfully geeky Friday night. 🙂
Saturday morning I slept in before doing some weekend chores. I went through a stack of coupons, did our meal planning/grocery list, climbed Mt. Laundry, and switched out purses. My body must’ve needed sleep because I took a nap after lunch. Spenser was so funny. We were hanging out on the couch and my eyes were getting heavy so I asked him “do you want to take a nap upstairs?”. Spenser looked up at me, hopped off the couch and started walking towards the bedroom. Mac joined us and the three of us had a wonderfully snuggly nap.
After my nap I got cleaned up, dealt with a bit of a bad hair day, and headed to the grocery store and Target.
So annoying- I needed shampoo but goofed and got myself conditioner instead. Sorry Girlie, I’m borrowing yours for a few days. Did I ever mention that she switched from kid’s products to regular ones somewhat recently? It was one of those weird little milestones that totally made me cry out of nowhere.
Saturday night we were supposed to have our neighborhood bonfire but there was an issue getting a permit. One of our neighbors had a small fire in his firepit instead. It was nice to sit by a fire, have a beer, and chat with neighbors. Even though it was freezing and I had to wear 2 hoodies!
Sunday morning was a whole different story, warm and sunny with cloudless blue skies. I brought my iced coffee and laptop out to the deck and did some reading and writing. The new set HH and Girlie got me for Mother’s Day has an umbrella which gives enough shade for me to use my laptop. Yay!!
Sunday afternoon I met up with my friend Alison for a hike. I’ve really been needing some good sweaty girl talk and it totally provided. Does anyone else prefer their girltalk with a side of sweat rather than drinks?
After our hike I got cleaned up to go to a BBQ with our friends Chris and Christen. It was at the home of a friend of theirs I’d never met so I was
majorly a little anxious. Everyone was really nice and we all had a great time. There was a big group of kids just around Girlie’s age so that helped a lot.
Monday morning was spent doing some basic household chores and working on blog posts while HH went to the gym. Then when he got home I headed out to get my workout done. While I was at the gym HH and Girlie went to our neighbor’s house for a BBQ. I joined them later after I cleaned up from my sweatfest.
I love our friends and neighbors but this weekend was a bit heavy on socialization for this introvert so I made sure to take time for myself. This is something I’ve finally learned how to balance since I’m an introvert married to an extrovert. I left the bonfire a bit early to relax solo at home. I made sure to schedule some good one on one time with HH, Girlie, and a good girlfriend. I joined the BBQ a little late and made sure to get home in time for a quiet “Sunday Night on Monday” routine. (Including watching Game of Thrones- Whoa!! Did anyone else watch that?!) I’m pretty sure that doing this was what kept the weekend wonderful instead of overwhelming.
Any other introverts out there? How do you keep social weekends wonderful rather than overwhelming?
Anyone else prefer their girl talk with a side of sweat rather than sweets or drinks?
