I assure you all, I have not hijacked Kristen’s blog. I do however, owe her big for a bit of naughty behavior I demonstrated recently. You see, a couple of weeks ago Kristen was sent a box of Eat Nakd’s full line up of cereal bars to sample and write about. Well, she did her part and sampled one but then I discovered them after a morning workout only to completely fall in love with them. Those bars and I were then mutually exclusive for the remainder of the week. I’m not sure how this happened to me! I’m typically the weak link in our heathy eating plans and will happily forgo a bar in exchange for grilled meat, cheese or a smoothie for my post workouts. These buggers are pretty fantastic though so I’ll break them down quickly to give them their due and perhaps get some of you to try them and share thoughts too. Here are some of my favorites.
Apple Protein Crunch
Easily one of my favorites and the one that started my infatuation. This bar packed 18.4g of protein, where gluten, wheat and dairy free and made with Dates, Cashews, Raisins, Apple and Apple Juice. This struck me as a favorite because the apple taste was clean and crisp and did not have the lingering artificial taste often associated with manufactured apple flavored products. Hope you enjoy it too!
Banana Protein Crunch
Banana Crunch was another favorite of mine. I like the balance of protein and natural carbs from dates on these bars. One or two of these as a snack or on the go, post-workout meal are great! The banana was present in the taste but I did want more of it but doing so would have likely added more sugar than I’d want. This bar was very satisfying!
This one was good but I wanted more sharpness of ginger in it. It reminded me more of a cookieless Fig Newton. That’s “OK” I like Fig Newtons…ALOT, it just didn’t taste quite like what I thought. Keep in mind folks, I liked ALL OF THESE, this is me trying to break down the details.
Rhubarb & Custard
Tart at first with a clean, sweet finish I admit that I did not have this one alone. It paired great with a Greek Yogurt!
Strawberry Protein Crunch
Strawberry crunch was good. This one packed a nice pop of protein too. However, of the high protein series, this one tasted the least like what it was supposed to. The use of dates as the sweetening agent and binder overpowered the strawberry so it is only faintly hinted with strawberry.
OMG!! This one was my absolute favorite bars of the batch and is now a favorite for any brand. I love Pecan Pie and this made me feel like I was completely cheating on my meal plan but wasn’t. The texture, sweenness and nutty flavors worked perfectly to give a nod of respect to one of my favorite deserts.
The Cashew Cookie bar was sweet and nutty. This was simple and extremely tasty using 51% cashews and 49% dates. It’s neutral flavor made it a great topping on a yogurt. This bar is great as a stand alone or could be used creatively with other foods. Experiment with this one and let us know what you come up with!
This is the one that landed me in the dog house. Kristen absolutely loves everything that combines chocolate and orange flavors. Yep, you guessed it! I ate it but in my defense I held off for as long as I could before devouring it. I know, terrible…the truth of it is , I’d do it again! This was a great bar, hint of cocoa and sweet orange as advertised with 11g of protein and well balanced macronutrients. I recommend this one highly!
The only thing I didn’t like was when Kristen told me that I’d have to order more from the Natural Balance Foods website since Nak’d bars aren’t sold at stores in the US yet. Maybe if I order her the Chocolovers box she’ll forget I ate all the other bars?
Hey There Friends! What did you think of HH’s first guest post? I actually did get to try several of the Nak’d bars and really liked them but since he took my suggestion of “go ahead and help yourself, just let me know what you think” a little too seriously I figured he owed us a guest post! I loved the Caffe Mocha and Cocoa Crunch bars the most.
Have you tried Nak’d Bars? What’s your favorite flavor?
