From problems with our movers (probably to be discussed later) to driving for 3 days to unpacking and getting Girlie enrolled in school this process was exhausting physically, mentally, and emotionally. We’re living in an apartment temporarily until our NH house sells and we can buy down here which means we get to move again. Egads. Part of me wants the house to sell soon so we can get fully, really settled and part of me wants to delay because the thought of packing and moving again makes me want to cry. Then again, we’ve committed to a school district now so it’ll be a short move that we can do ourselves.
Today is the last day of Girlie’s first week at her new school. She seems to be settling in well. Her teachers seem friendly and approachable. They even made sure to pair her up with a girl who rides the same bus and the two are already on the road to being good friends. She’s also made a few other friends in class and one of them lives in the building right across from ours! There’s a playground next to it, directly across from our porch so yesterday she and her new friend played for a couple hours. That’s a huge weight off my shoulders. Girlie is a super social kid but I was still worried about her being able to make friends quickly since she was starting 2 weeks before Christmas vacation. Now she’ll already know someone in the neighborhood over break!
HH is loving his new job. He started on Monday but we were invited to attend the company holiday party last Friday. We did and there really seem to be a lot of good people there. I really enjoyed talking to one of the other wives, we definitely had a lot in common! (Yeah Miss Social Anxiety!! Win!!)
Spenser is working on adjusting to apartment life.
Back in NH we could just open our door and let him go out into the yard whenever he wanted. Here we have to actually put the leash on and take him out for a walk. It’s good in that we all get a bit more exercise but it sure is a pain early in the morning and late at night.
Speaking of exercise, today was my first run and gym workout since the move. I re-restarted the Couch to 5K program and I started a 4 week program I got from Karlene last year. Our complex has a little fitness center (think great hotel gym) so I took my time pouring over workout programs for something I could do there without much adapting. MWGTST and Superheroine Fitness both incorporate a lot of full body workouts with cardio or rest days between. For this round I really wanted something with a more traditional set up so that I can lift on consecutive days. This program is basically 2 workouts, upper body and lower body. So 2 days of lifting, a cardio only or rest day then repeat. I’ll also run on the upper body days and walk on the lower body days.
Since I’m looking for a job I have the time to cook more and not have to prep over the weekend. I’m looking forward to sharing our menu with you and starting to experiment with recipes again. I especially want to hit up the local farmers market for local produce and seafood.
Have you ever made a big move? Any advice or suggestions for me? Any Florida peeps??
