Hey There Friends, long time no write. I’ve had a lot of things I’ve wanted to say but the nasty cycle of perfectionism ⇒ procrastination has kinda been kicking my butt. Today is my birthday though, so no pressure. (Ok, so I started this post on my birthday…) Just sharing some random things. Some may become further posts. Or not. Prepare yourself for multiple pet pictures!
I now weigh ten pounds (10!) more than when I started the 10 week challenge with Evolution Fitness. At that time I was really sick and tired of being overweight and having people mistakenly think I was pregnant. (Note: never, ever, EVER, ask a woman if she’s pregnant. Unless you’re an x ray tech or something and then it’s your job and it’s part of a questionnaire) Those ten pounds aren’t muscle. I’ve officially called BS on myself and gotten back on track. It might be time for a new motivation statement. Or to print out my old one and have it where I can see it daily.
Following on that, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Disease. So some of that extra weight isn’t just my bad habits piling up, it’s that my thyroid isn’t doing its job. I’ve started on meds so hopefully between those and the lifestyle changes I’m making my clothes will start to fit again.
That reminds me, I found a new primary care doc and I love her! The whole practice is very wellness centered and I really feel she is just an email away. Thanks to email and calls I think I got my diagnosis and treatment started about a week faster and one or two appointments less than would happen with most providers. Saving me time and money and focusing on wellness (not just sickness) is the way to this patient’s heart. I brought Girlie in to see her for her well child and she was a fan too. Tampa peeps- if you need a referral let me know!
I got myself donuts for breakfast on my birthday but every other day last week I had homemade Protein Pumpkin Bread. I tweaked this recipe a bit, including baking it in a loaf pan. I’m definitely going to make it again and (maybe) I’ll share my recipe.
I had been kinda worried that neither of my Mother’s Day kittens were really into me. Gwen absolutely fell in love with Girlie. Merlin spent most of the first month here hiding under our bed and refusing to even let me touch him. Now though, Merlin is my little love bug! He is so snuggly and purr-y and loving. He even likes big hugs, which is something no other cat I’ve ever had has been a fan of.
We survived our first Florida summer. Yes, it was hot. Yes, it was humid. Yes, our air conditioner died during one of the hottest weeks of the summer. But we made it through. I love our new home but it is definitely a bit of a money pit. We knew it needed cleaning and cosmetic work but figured, like they say on HGTV, “that’s just cosmetic”. Here’s a bit of powerful wisdom that those HGTV folks never hit on: if a house needs a lot of cosmetic work maybe it’s a sign that the homeowners didn’t keep up with things. Y’know, like maintaining the air conditioning system. Oh, and we also had to replace the water main going into the house.
I work from home and all three pets spend most of the days in my office with me.
I was thinking that it was because they love me so much!! But really, it’s the sunniest space in the house. (womp womp) I figured this out when I was sick one day. I spent the day in the living room, curled up on the couch. The beasties spent the day… in my office as usual.
We are now in Florida fall, which means some mornings I can open the windows.
It also means Fall Ball. Softball here is a two season a year sport. Girlie is playing again and having a lot of fun. The fall league is a lot more laid back (no playoffs) but there’s more travel. Not like, travel ball travel, but Tampa is big so more urban sprawl travel.
Speaking of Girlie, her summer program offered a session of kids weight lifting hosted by a local CrossFit box. She went once and loved it but sadly it was cancelled due to lack of interest. I looked into kids CrossFit near us but holy cannoli expensive!! Then one of the other moms at the bus stop mentioned that the gym she goes to allows you to bring your kids to group fitness with you. So Girlie and I checked it out and we now go to The Bod. She loves the circuit training classes, I get a serious workout in, and I love that we’re having fun working out together. Bonus, for some reason some of our best talks happen on the way home from the gym.
I guess that’s all I’ve got to say for right now. Except, I’ve missed this.
