I have finally found a vitamin that Girlie will take without argument!
Over the past several years I have thrown away more dried out partially completed bottles of children’s vitamins than I care to count. To give you an idea, Girlie is eleven years old and I’ve been trying to get her to take vitamins (at least during cold and flu season) since she was about… three, four maybe? Yeah. I’ve gone through princesses and heroes and generics and they all wind up rejected. Until now. Girlie actually reminded me twice this week to buy her more vitamins since she was running low. Twice! I checked online and there were a few retailers right nearby and I managed to pick up a new bottle while she still had one dose left.
Each bottle of Yummi Bears is a 30 day supply. Ours lasted about 25 days due to
theft testing by HH and myself. I’ll admit they taste really, really good. So good that Girlie did a little independent research and suggested she be allowed to have extras since they’re water soluble vitamins which “your body uses what it needs then you pee out the rest so extra isn’t bad for you”. Excellent research, not how I’d have phrased it, and she still only gets one serving per day.
Hero Nutritionals were the first company to develop gummy vitamins for kids. Their original Yummi Bears came out in 1997, the organic line was introduced in 2009. The adult versions, Slice of Life Organics, (more on those later) were also introduced in 2009.Each three bear serving contains 50% of the RDA of vitamins A, C, D, and Iodine. It contains higher than that of others including B vitamins, folic acid, and vitamin E. Yes, there are 5g of sugar as well, which is far less than the spoonful a certain magical nanny suggested so I’m ok with it. I’ll admit that one of the reasons I had so many failed vitamin attempts for Girlie was that I didn’t 100% buy in to taking multivitamins. It was one of those “yeah, we should” things. Now that she has consistently taken Yummi Bears for one month, I’m a believer. This was the first month of school and Girlie has managed to only have one very minor case of the sniffles, which could even have been allergies. Normally we’d have been hit with a cold or stomach bug by now. (Knock on wood!)
I usually take my medications at bedtime. Gummies just before or after brushing my teeth aren’t appealing so I’ve been keeping the Energy +B12 on my desk and taking them when my sweet tooth hits for the first time each day. I have to be really careful with anything labeled energy as certain stimulants can trigger my migraines. These are just a B Vitamin blend, which my internet research indicates is helpful in maintaining a healthy metabolism and turning our food into energy. I’m not as sure as I am about Girlie’s multi but I can always use metabolism support (according to the sign below I could use a little more energy too).

Do you (or your kids) take a multivitamin? Have you completely bought in or is it a “yeah we should”? What about B Vitamins?
