Holy Cannoli Guys! Where have I been?? Sorry about that! I totally didn’t mean to go AWOL there. Life just got totally nutty and this here blog had to take a total backseat for a bit.
Today I have a super chill Sunday going on I’m going to take the opportunity for some old school style random rambling blogging and catch up with you. I had thought about doing this as a coffee date style post but I honestly didn’t want even that much structure. If you like though, know that I’m drinking a cup and it might be a great time for you to have one too!
The last time I actually talked about my life was over the summer so… Girlie started 7th grade. I’m even more torn than ever what I do and don’t share here. It’s her life, not mine but I love looking back and reading posts of our times together. Who knows, someday maybe I’ll actually really introduce her. For now, life with a student athlete is super busy. We still love our girls nights complete with workouts and fro-yo or takeout! Only now we work out together (different levels of the same workout or different workouts in the same room) instead of her going to the kids room at the gym.
Speaking of the gym… I recently finished the Nerd Fitness Academy and I totally owe you guys a review! (I don’t even think I mentioned that I started it.. oops!) I just started the Get Jacked program from Girls Gone Strong. I think you know about my love for them. I think the Modern Women’s Guide to Strength Training is one of the best programs out there for beginners and I’m really looking forward to this, one of their Get Results programs.
Do you guys remember when I confessed that I couldn’t ride a bike and did all that research on cycling? Well guess what I did?? Yep! I rented a bike and we went out on the trail for a family bike ride. I had an amazing time and was soo proud of myself! This is definitely something I want to do more often now that the weather is cooler.
Speaking of proud of myself… dun dun dun… I finally finished my ACE Personal Trainer Certification!! I took my exam on my birthday, which I don’t really recommend. I’m just super glad that they give you the results right away. I don’t know how I’d have handled waiting more than 30 seconds to find out. Actually, if I didn’t know I’d get the results in 30 seconds I’d have been smarter and not scheduled the exam on my birthday. Poor HH and Girlie kept asking what I wanted to do for my birthday and my only response was “pass my exam”. Not helpful.
They were amazing though! They took me out for fabulous dinner and spoiled me with presents. Which reminds me… one of my presents was an air fryer. Do you have any favorite healthy air fryer recipes?
Oh, speaking of recipes, I have a couple of protein ball recipes for you. I will publish those in the next 2 weeks. I promise!
Remember when this was primarily a food blog and I posted lots of recipes? LOL. That was actually the entire plan… to be a food blogger. Life changes a lot. Do you also remember when I ran all the time? Well, I hadn’t run consistently since before we moved to Florida almost 3 years ago. I agreed to run the St Jude’s 5K. Then I kinda forgot about it. Then I started training with 4 weeks to go! (I’m not always really smart.) But I did it!! I only had to take a couple walk breaks.
When I started training for that I realized that my running shoes were almost 5 years old, had many miles on them, and had probably been put away wet so were a little crunchy. Time for new kicks! (Does anyone call shoes kicks anymore? probably not. probably just another sign that I’m getting old.) Janae had posted a picture of the Brooks Boston Marathon shoes and all her different Brooks reviews and the lobsters had me convinced! Lobsters and anchors and ropes aside, I really like the Launch 5’s. They feel great to run in with just the right amount of support and cushiness. I do have to remember to wear slightly higher running socks with them since the back goes up a little higher than my old Mizono’s did.
Janae shared a recent post about her church and her religious beliefs. We recently realized that what we had thought was going to be our church home wasn’t working out for us. When the pastor and his wife left, we realized that it was time for us to start looking for our new church home too. The process got a little overwhelming (it’s like dating and that’s just exhausting!) so we gave ourselves a break from when softball started until November. Well, we tried a new church last night and really liked it. It was super different from what we usually go for but we were very pleasantly surprised!
We also really enjoyed having Saturday night service. We went out for dinner after and talked about the service and the sermon. Then relaxing today instead of trying to decide if we’re going to church or getting out for church then figuring we’ll stop for lunch then an errand then the day just gets away. We have a few friends who go to this church too, actually the more we’ve mentioned it the more people who we know who say “oh we go there too!” which is part of that community feeling I’m always looking for. I guess it surprises me to find it in a bigger church in our sprawly city.
And, of course, I can’t leave you guys without cute pet pictures.
What have you been up to?? Any new updates or recipes to share? Links to air fryer recipes especially?? Or tips?
