Hey there friends! I’ve been missing more old school blogging stuff so I decided to pop in and do a little random post of stuff I’ve been loving lately. I had thought about saving it for tomorrow and doing a Monday Morning Coffee Break but… sometimes you just gotta go with the flow.
I saw this top as part of a roundup post somewhere just after my birthday and really liked. Since it was just after my birthday I stuck it on my Amazon list and let it sit. Since HH and I share a Prime account I was like… there’s my Christmas list. And I’m so glad he picked this up! It’s super comfy and still kinda sexy depending on what you wear underneath. The original article I had read called it a sweatshirt, this calls it a blouse. It’s really a thick, heavy tee shirt material. Which is perfect for what I wanted here in Tampa. I call it my mullet top. If you lived through the 90’s, you know why.
This is silly and kinda ties in perfectly with that top. My back has been getting super itchy and dry this winter since I can’t reach it to moisturize. I don’t always have the ability or desire to ask HH to run into the bathroom after my shower to put lotion on my back. I had remembered seeing commercials for this stuff when it first came out and it totally works! I know it’s not perfect and the ingredients aren’t super fabulous and it’s not as good as the other moisturizers I use. But it reaches that little area on my back that I otherwise miss. So now my back is no longer itchy.
My book club (Ok, one of my book clubs…yep, nerd alert) read this book last fall. It’s from a local author who was looking for a little exposure. Note to new authors: reach out to book clubs. They’ll happily take promo copies and potentially discuss on social media etc. I was pleasantly surprised since I’m usually a mystery/horror/sci fi kinda girl. I honestly thought it should have been tweaked a bit and marketed as middle reader or YA. He focused on some of the powerful themes of family dynamics, changing relationships, and racial tension with the delicacy that the novels Girlie has been reading at school have shown. I could definitely see some of her teachers being able to work with this. Not saying that it’s a kids book, just that there’s nothing here that couldn’t be for kids and that there are some great themes. Nicholas shares a lot of short poetry on his Instagram page, which has been a breath of fresh air in my feed lately.
When Girls Gone Strong announced that they were releasing the Get Results programs I knew I would want to buy one. I also knew that I’d only be able to buy one. 😢 I chose Get Jacked and I’m loving it! It’s a hypertrophy (muscle building) program for women and I’ve really been enjoying it. The program is clearly written and has explanations for pretty much everything!! Including the science behind the warmups and cooldowns! There are pictures and videos for all the moves. Plus an actual physical book as well as a download that you can print for those of us who like to print out their workouts and write all over them at the gym. Since Girlie works out with me about 2 days per week the first thing I did was sit down and rewrite the first phase with her abilities and goals in mind. Which, since this program is SO WELL WRITTEN wasn’t hard at all!!! It’s already broken down into skill levels with alternative exercises so it was super easy to modify with different rest and rep ranges.
I finished Phase One just before Christmas I think. I sadly haven’t been able to work out much since. The one thing I haven’t been loving lately is that I caught a stupid respiratory system infection and have been coughing since Christmas! I had started feeling a bit better at one point but pushed it and went to the gym for about a week. The next week- worse. So I had to go to the doc and get on meds etc. Fortunately, since I’d put on muscle I’ve been able to watch my nutrition and I haven’t lost too much lean mass even without working out for so long. Which really is amazing.
I’d love to hear from you! What have you been loving lately!! Anything you want to share? Any old school blogging type things you’ve been missing?
