Happy Monday! Today I have some recipes, some music, some books and something very… me… for you. So pour yourself a cup and enjoy your break today.
I love to listen to music while I work but can struggle to concentrate if there are lyrics involved. The 50’s/ 60’s Surf Rock playlist from Spotify has been the perfect summery work accompaniment this season. https://open.spotify.com/user/jessgambino/playlist/2B6wP3rBCzE65k001zUR6X?si=imL3U6oCSs2FVoyzLBcUOA
Y’all know that I’m all about menu planning for the weekend. I tend to buy frozen fish at Costco then forget to move it to the fridge to thaw in time. Then I’m either rearranging the menu, ordering takeout, or trying to quick thaw things and stressing… until now. I tried this recipe/method and it worked PERFECT. Amazing! https://cookthestory.com/how-to-cook-fish-from-frozen/
I recently finished reading the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I’m considering reading the follow up series, but I’m not sure. I’m not quite ready for another series yet. (Oh, and as you can see I recently joined GoodReads.) Why does it seem like most wonderful fantasy novels are part of series? This post has a list of standalone fantasy novels for when you’re in the same point as me. https://www.bookbub.com/blog/best-fantasy-standalone-books-editorial-blurbs
This NPR post reminded me of my love for old and traditional blues. The artists here are worth a listen, and then a voyage down the rabbit hole of blues artists you’ve never heard or heard of. https://www.npr.org/2019/07/07/738019387/capturing-the-undersung-blues-people-of-the-rural-south
I made these air fryer chicken thighs and they came out perfect. While I thought the sauce took a little more effort than needed ( Trader Joe’s has some great bottled options, or Soy Vey) the cooking method itself is something I will definitely repeat. https://www.skinnytaste.com/air-fryer-asian-glazed-boneless-chicken-thighs/
Speaking of perfect chicken, I had mentioned back in the spring that I was going to try Rachel’s “Perfect Chicken” recipe. It’s now my go-to for meal prep or chicken breasts for salads etc (unless I’m going for shredded or fast- then it’s slow cooker or instant pot.) https://www.justgoodshit.com/blog/the-perfect-chicken-recipe
This list of books has a few that look amazing. I really need this type of vacation soon. It’s been far too long since I’ve had a “sit on my butt” type vacay. https://dannygregorysblog.com/2019/05/07/what-i-did-on-vacation/
While on a “sit on my butt” vacay I would clearly need food. As a grocery store lover, this post about exploring a new city or culture through its grocery stores spoke to me. http://nymag.com/urbanist/article/the-best-tourist-secret-attraction-is-the-grocery-store.html
Have you read, written, heard, cooked, or eaten anything lately that you’d like to share with me? I’d love to hear about it!!
