Hey There Friends! Today I wanted to talk about morning routines. I feel like there is a perfect morning routine for everyone, even us dedicated non- morning people!
Some people are morning exercisers. I. am. not. Some people wake up in the shower. I think I’d drown.
I used to set my alarm as late as humanly possible to get to work on time. But I learned that was leaving me frazzled and stressed, especially when I was also getting my daughter ready for school. So, with trial and error I’ve discovered an almost-perfect morning routine for me.
Even though it means having an earlier morning, I do best setting an alarm for about a half an hour before anyone else needs to be up. (Or at least needs to engage with me.) The night before I’ll set the timer on the coffeemaker so that it’s all ready for me. That way I can have a peaceful cup of coffee in a quiet house.
I’ll check my Fitbit stats for sleep the night before, scroll some social media, and do a little journalling. My basic journal in the morning is 3 things I’m grateful for and 3 things I’m excited about. Sometimes I write more. Sometimes that’s it.
I’m trying to get to where I journal before I scroll. I love the idea of it. I’ve considered getting an inspirational book to read in this quiet morning time. But I’m not quite there yet. My brain isn’t quite ready for deep thoughts until after those first few minutes. Maybe there’s an app with some gentle morning thoughts or inspirational readings? I think part of the reason I like my phone first is that it’s one handed, leaving the other free for my coffee cup!
What about you? What’s your perfect morning routine? Have you found it yet? Any suggestions for transitioning me from social media first?
