I took a sick day yesterday with a migraine. There was a time when I didn’t dare take sick days. There were times at previous jobs when I had been formally written up for using my sick days and even unpaid leave thanks to my migraines.
That was back when they were borderline chronic. Back then we didn’t even know that I had Hashimoto’s Disease. I was working in highly stressful jobs with hours that my body hated. It was a horrible cycle. My job made my migraines worse, my migraines made my job worse.
These days I take the right daily preventative meds and supplements. I get enough sleep and it’s at the hours my body prefers. I know what type of workouts and foods my body does well with.
Even better, my job is supportive and flexible. I work from home in a lower pressure field. There is backup when we have to take time off. There isn’t attitude about calling out. I don’t have to worry about returning to a pile of extra work.
The crazy weird best part? A few hours later when I was feeling better? I was able to get out and enjoy the day a bit. Without worrying that anyone would complain- I knew they would be happy for me instead!
