Hey There Friends! I wasn’t entirely sure if I was going to participate in the Ultimate Coffee Date linkup this month with Deborah and Coco but.. in the end I really do wish I could meet up with my friends for coffee right now!
There are so many dear friends, old and new, who I wish I could meet up with for coffee right now. If we were to meet for coffee I’d want to talk about how, about 5 years ago, we moved from New Hampshire to Florida. At the time our family needed more economic options. While there were possibly some opportunities in New England, part of me really wanted to raise my daughter in an area with more diversity. I wanted her to have friends and classmates who didn’t necessarily look like us or have families who spoke the same language as us. Tampa fit all of our needs. I’d share that, while I was thinking about the diversity in her life, I have been beyond blessed with diversity in my own relationships as well.
If we were to meet for coffee I’d ask if recent events have you thinking about your friend groups and relationships. Are you feeling like they’re all pretty homogeneous? Does the area you live in give you much opportunity for diverse relationships or are you kinda reliant on social media for those options? (If so I totally get it- small town NH was super white!)
If we were to meet for coffee I’d tell you that when I’ve needed a break from the turmoil in our nation I’ve been trying to watch the comfort of home improvement shows. But even those got me thinking in analogies of what’s going on. I even wrote a post about it.
If we were to meet for coffee I’d want to know if you’ve been able to shut it off mentally, or if your brain keeps going and trying to make sense of things?
If we were to meet for coffee I’d tell you that I went for a walk with a friend for the first time since things started opening up and OMG it was amazing!! I got to actually talk to a friend IN REAL LIFE about a lot of what’s been on my mind and in my heart these past few months. This time around I did a lot more talking than listening. Next time I’ll make sure to listen more than talk.
If we were to meet for coffee I’d ask if you’ve gotten to spend time with a friend yet?
If we were to meet for coffee I’d ask what you have on your mind. Then I’d listen, really listen. Because that’s always what I try to do on coffee dates! (Although sometimes I fail miserably, especially when I’m excited about something. Sorry, gotta be honest.) So what’s on your mind?
