Ultimate Coffee Date July- This is Fourteen

July 4, 2020 By Kristen 9 Comments

Hey There Friends! It’s the first weekend of the month so it’s time to link up with Deborah and Coco for the Ultimate Coffee Date! Since we’re all really good at virtual coffee dates these days, go ahead and pour a cup so we can chat!

We are definitely well into Florida summer but Gwen loves the balcony so much! I try to at least have morning coffee out here with her so she can enjoy it while it’s relatively cool.

If we were meeting for coffee I would tell you that my daughter turned fourteen (14! gasp!) this week. I’d talk about how amazingly proud I am of her. While I do sometimes miss being able to snuggle her on my lap (she’s been taller than me for a while) I wouldn’t trade the bright young woman she is now for anything.

I’d talk about our passionate conversations over the past few months, how she firmly believes that Black Lives Matter, in LGBTQ rights, and that your feminism isn’t feminism if it isn’t intersectional. (Although she didn’t know that term, and her response to it was so pure it was funny.) I’d talk about how planning and celebrating a birthday these days is tricky! But that the release of Hamilton made it easier.

If we were meeting for coffee I’d want to know if you or your family had any big milestones lately that had you feeling reflective.

If we were meeting for coffee I’d talk about how much I’ve been missing some of my favorite local small businesses and how much I’m hoping that they keep afloat during this time. While my job is secure my budget is still pretty tight so it may be a while before I can afford many extras. It’s an odd struggle between wanting to shop local small businesses and needing to stretch my dollars. Doing my best to balance it out! I have been able to get out for a couple of non- virtual coffee dates at a local coffee shop with patio seating and I’m really really looking forward to getting to a yoga class at Green Locus again!

If we were meeting for coffee I’d ask how you’re supporting your local small business economy. Any suggestions on ways to balance it out?

If we were to meet for coffee I’d ask what you have on your mind. Then I’d listen, really listen. Because that’s always what I try to do on coffee dates! (Although sometimes I fail miserably, especially when I’m excited about something. Sorry, gotta be honest.) So what’s on your mind?

-Kristen

I get together with a friend in my backyard, masked, occasionally. That’s it. Even she does a bit to much for my taste, but outdoors, masked, 6 feet apart — hopefully ok.

My husband turns 60 in 3 months. I am wracking my brain on what the heck to do!

We do order dinner in once a week. But even as a Yoga teacher, I have zero desire to go to a studio. I want to support them, but . . . yes, this definitely effected my teaching.. Big time.

I sure do miss my local hangouts so much. We have been trying to get take our from our favorites a few times each week in the hopes that they stay in business. A 14 year old daughter can be a handful! enjoy! Thanks for linking up for coffee and have a great week

We’re supporting local restaurants. We usually order extra and tip more than usual. I’ve also been going to the farmers markets more than usual. Other than that we do buy from Amazon

    Happy birthday to your daughter!

We do carryout every other week or so to support our local restaurants. Here in Northern Virginia, most stores other than grocery stores and the big box stores weren’t open until a few weeks ago so shopping at mom and pop stores wasn’t an option.

I was worried about my Pilates studio but it’s open again so hopefully it will stay afloat. I’m not comfortable going yet and I haven’t checked to see if the classes were full. Fingers crossed they will be there when I’m ready.

Happy birthday to your daughter! We have been doing carryout from local small restaurants when we can, but other that that we really haven’t gone anywhere. I’ve tried to support my local running store by signing up for a few virtual races.

Happy birthday to your daughter! Little man turned 12 in April, and it was definitely a bit of a different celebration.

With everything canceled and me being home since November, we have saved a ton of money. We are still being cautious with our budget as Mr PugRunner owns his own business, but we are doing our best to support what we can. But I get your sentiment entirely. I hope things normalize soon.

Happy birthday to your daughter! It was a low-key weekend here but I did watch Hamilton twice and finished Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. I’m about to hit a birthday in a week and just sort of “meh” about it. lol.

I do try to pick up food from some local restaurants and also go to my local farmers market about twice a week (with a mask, even though I’m the only one…)
